Alanna Surkan

I attended Rivier for 6 years and really enjoyed my experiences there. It allowed me to excel in many areas including sports, arts, music, and academics. The staff were always supportive and did a great job at keeping me interested in what they had to teach. I also really enjoyed the many friendships that I developed with my classmates and others in the school. I have stayed in contact with many of those girls and see many of them on a regular basis at social events, school, volleyball teams, ect.
When I graduated Rivier I knew I was off to the U of S but did not really know what direction I wanted to take. I knew what I liked and I had a general idea of what type of career I might want. I took three years through the college of Kinesiology and absolutely loved it. That program really opened many doors and convinced me that I wanted a career in some sort of health care field. I originally thought Physiotherapy was the direction my life would take, but I also looked into other options such as occupational therapy, research, and medicine. When I got an invite for an interview with the College of Medicine I started looking at that option more seriously. The more I learned the more excited I got about it. From there on, life went as planned and I was accepted. I am currently working on completing my first year. I haven’t decided what type of specialty I want to pursue. Right now I am just trying to learn as much as I can and keep my options open. All I know for sure is that I want to stay in Saskatchewan.
Besides school, I am currently staying busy by volunteering with college activities and clubs, playing on 2 volleyball teams, and spending time with my wonderful boyfriend, Ian, and our families.

Charlotte Brockman

I really enjoyed my time at Rivier Academy! I have to say that I am glad all the cameras were installed around the time I was leaving though! I probably shouldn't tell a lot of my favourite memories there (haha) but I really did like the environment and opportunities for the arts (very much lacking at my home- town school). Mrs Ikert made me love Phys. Ed once again - rugby, ultimate frisbee, synchronized swimming, step aerobics, yoga, etc etc was definitely a change from typical volleyball and floor hockey curriculum of my former school.
I have a B.Sc (honours) in Civil Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. I did work for the City of Saskatoon, but am now running wild in Vancouver and work for Opus International Consultants (a huge company in NZ and Aus, but only recently gaining a presence in North America). I was going to travel with my company, but I don't really enjoy the work I do and therefore, (much to my parents' dismay) intend on quitting in spring and probably tree planting and hitchhiking until fall, when I may attempt to get another job in a market that has left many of my jr. engineering peers looking for work to no avail. .......is Rivier looking for a new border mom? Maybe I should apply!
In all seriousness, I am really glad I attended River Academy. I would send my children there.

Timiebe Aganaba

Timiebi is an associate lawyer at Sofola & Associates in Lagos, Nigeria. She studied law at the University of Leicester in the UK. Upon successful graduation from the Nigerian Law School in 2006, she worked at the Nigerian Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), serving in the Legal Affairs and International Cooperation department. She attended the International Space University (ISU) Strasbourg to pursue a Masters in Space Management. Upon graduation from the masters program, she worked as a teaching associate in the space management program at the ISU with a focus on space law and policy issues. Currently she serves as Directors assistant for the ISU International Institute of Space Commerce where she is responsible for undertaking research projects.

Alexis Normand

"Rivier provided me with numerous opportunities to develop my fields of interest and discover new ones. From the well-developed music program, to the French-immersion option, sporting teams and residence life, the well-rounded experience I lived as a student and resident of Rivier Academy is one I truly enjoyed."
After graduation in 2002, I left Saskatchewan to pursue my post-secondary education in French, my first language. After 5 years at the University of Ottawa in Music Education, I was accepted at L’École nationale de la chanson (ÉNC) in Granby, Québec. The ÉNC offers an intensive 10-month program designed for francophone singer-songwriters during which I developed and refined lyric writing, music composition, vocal technique, staging, career management and studio work skills. The more time I spent away from the prairies, the more I wanted to come home. Upon my return in the summer of 2008, I was immediately employed by the Francophone school system. I also agreed to work for the Conseil Culturel Fransaskois as a recruitment officer and workshop leader for their InPAC program in 2008-2009. In June 2009, I decided to forgo my teaching career to pursue my musical calling. Since then things have been growing steadily. On top of an increasing number of public performances, I received two grants to fund my debut recording (from Musicaction and the Saskatchewan Arts Board) that will be released at the end of January 2010.

Amy Buckingham

"Rivier was an amazing place for learning, I would not be who I am today without Rivier. At Rivier, it is not about whether or not the teacher can put marks in his or her grade book but whether or not students are learning what they want them to learn. Rivier gives students the tools to become the best people that they can be through a well rounded curriculum and amazing role models through everyone around them. What I really appreciated about Rivier was how accepting everyone was, it did not matter what you were going through, you could talk to someone without having to worry if there was going to be any judgment. I loved everything about Rivier, the teachers, the students, and the schooling. Mostly though, the one thing I loved about Rivier was the opportunity it gave me to give back to the community, whether it be through volunteering at the church, participating in the amazing drama, or volunteering in the community. Rivier helped me grow in my faith in ways that I never though imaginable. I am currently living in Minot, North Dakota and I will be completing double degrees in this upcoming semester, studying Special Education and Elementary Education as well as getting married to the love of my life in June. Without Rivier Academy I am not sure I would be were I am today."

Carmen Bellehumeur

“Rivier was a fantastic school for me. As someone who didn't fit in or have any self-confidence in elementary school, Rivier helped me grow into the women I am today. Rivier helped me develop self-confidence and a place to fit in, by helping me discover my strengths as a person. Rivier helped me discover my love of the arts (theatre, music, art), and as such I went on to get a degree in Arts Education from the University of Regina with a major in Drama Education and a minor in Music Education. After receiving my first degree I continued and received a Bachelor of Arts as a Theatre major. I recently spent 2 years teaching music and french in the Yukon and have just returned to Saskatchewan and am substitute teaching for the Sask Rivers School Division. Rivier also gave me a love of travelling, and I have continued to travel a lot since my first trip to Europe with the Rivier travel club. I would recommend the school in a heartbeat to anyone who asked.”

Katherine Hayduk

"I started Grade 7 at Rivier in 2001, and graduated in 2007. Some of my favourite memories of my time at Rivier include Drama, Senior Choir and Jazz Choir, and the Europe trip in Grade 11. I am currently in my third year of Education at the University of Regina, and I know that many of the experiences that I had at Rivier have played a major role in getting me to where I am now.
One of the best things about being at a smaller school is that you really get to know the people in your school community. The teachers and staff were always so supportive, while also challenging me to develop my skills and talents. They really take the time to invest in who you are and who you want to become - if you will let them. Choosing to go to Rivier was one of the best decisions of my life so far, and I will always cherish the time that I had there."
